Due to our location and surrounded by our incredibly clean sea water we are able to harvest the finest sea sponges, renowned for their superior quality types, honeycomb and fina silk that are found in the seas of Aegean Island, Kalymnos, Crete and mainland Greece.
The Sea Sponge is not a coral, and is not a plant, rather it is classified as an animal which has neither brain nor central nervous system, it attaches itself to the sea bed and grows 10 to 70 meters deep only in clean, unpolluted sea waters. Our sponges are sustainably harvested, by expert fishermen, ensuring that the sponges are cut in order for the root to remain intact, so that the sponge can grow back to an even greater and stronger proportion than before. The sponges are then washed thoroughly in sea water and left to dry in the sun, then they are individually handpicked for each chosen use, carefully cleaned and clipped, a process unchanged over many generations.
All our sponges, before exportation , are passed a 3 stage inspection process to ensure that the receiving customer has at hand a long lasting , superior quality.
